Information for Application for an OKWA bursary for student artists.

Our 2019 Verna Vowles student bursary was presented by Mary Peppard to Abigail Maund Anderson.  Abigail completed the Arts Focus program in Kingston and is now in her second semester at Sheridan College in Illustration.  Board members found in her presented work demonstrated a diversity of exceptional talent that will carry her far in her chosen field.  Congratulations, Abigail!

Verna Vowles Art Bursary

Attention: all teachers of Visual Art in the Limestone District School Board, the Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, Conseil des écoles publiques de L’Est de L’Ontario and Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est

The Organization of Kingston Women Artists will provide a bursary of $1000.00 to deserving students to assist with their continuing studies in Visual Art. This bursary is to honour Verna Vowles who passed away in 2016. Verna was still working as an artist at the age of 96 and was a much beloved member of OKWA.

Bursary application requirements:

1.The students must be entering a full time program in Visual Art or Design at an acknowledged post-secondary institution.

2. The students must submit five images of their current work (any media) and descriptions of their pieces (ie. medium, size, date completed) to OKWA. We would also like to hear the students’ plans for the future regarding their art careers if possible. This can be done electronically or by post with a flash drive.

3. OKWA would like a brief description of the students’ work and abilities to be provided by their teacher.

4. A panel of OKWA members will jury the submissions we receive. The recipient chosen will be informed and a cheque will be issued when OKWA receives confirmation of the recipient’s acceptance into a post secondary programme in Visual Art or Design.
